After graduation,
I've always had a phobia of living in the same city I went to high school in.
I would feel as if I never progressed. As if my future was non-existing.
I've lived in cities around it, but never in it.
This song is about the hometown heroes that never left.
The group of friends that never detached and bunker-ed down.
Half of which settled while others stayed unwillingly. Life is unpredictable.
This song strongly deterred from the idea of a cohesive album, more so than "Through the Right Kind of Eye".
We wanted to write an album that would show our abilities.
We were not out to record a concept album, we were too young
of a band for that.
We were still searching for our sound. We wanted to get out there
and just start playing.
Most of all we wanted peaks and valleys. Some people really
enjoyed that about the album, others did not.
Lyrics:
lyrics
My motor burns,
sequester me away for hours.
It drives me back
lunar beacons bring me here.
Drugs and butterflies
misery has all the answers,
it keeps me here.
I thought I won this time.
And you gave it all you had,
but it got you in the end.
The water's warm
we dream of change while toasting our friends.
We're home again
chasing progress through a frame.
We never really learn,
The city is a hopeless lover
that keeps me here
I thought I won this time
And you gave it all you had,
but it got you in the end.
