I have the most love/hate relationship with this song.
Its a popular song with some.
The live and studio versions of this song have and always will
bug me. A lot of complications along the way, but ultimately
this was the finished studio product. A great example of having
a song in mind that you think you know well, and it translating
completely different in the studio.
I hear this happens a lot with other bands.
I don't want to give the exact meaning to every song, because
I always prefer personal opinions. This one is more or
less an extreme mental grip someone could have on you.
Lyrics:
lyrics
Looking back at me through all the flames.
Well here I am, like poison.
Combing through the streets with all your shame.
Well here I am, a sign of good faith.
Once you're dead, its over
well here I am, a sign of good faith.
My callused blood could fill your hungry eyes,
with a little emotion, and distortion.
Looking back at me the same,
you could drive me right back next to you,
in your reign.
The only way you're getting out alive,
is to scratch your way out.
